South Africa cricket team captain Temba Bavuma confirmed that Australia attempted to sledge the, using the chokers tag on ay 3 of the WTC final. The Proteas ended a 27-year-long wait to lay their hands on an ICC trophy by defeating Pat Cummins and co. by 5 wickets. Post the match, both of South Africa’s heroes Bavuma and Aiden Markram confirmed that the Aussies had indeed tried to get under the skin of the SA batters but failed to do so.
Bavuma says he heard Australia sledging using chokers tag
Speaking after their win on Saturday, Bavuma said that the tag of South Africa being chokers had come out of the Australian team during the 1st session of play. He said that one player even claimed that South Africa could lose all 8 wickets under 60 runs in an attempt to play psychological games with them.
“Of course, the tag of us being chokers, that came about this morning. One of their players threw out the fact that we could lose our eight wickets in less than 60 runs. I definitely heard that. Aiden kept using the [words] trancar depois de todas, vamos continuar travando. Não vamos dar nada a eles”Bavuma disse.

South Africa found themselves in an extremely comfortable position on Day 4 of the WTC final. Aiden Markram’s hundred and Temba Bavuma’s half-century on Day 3 put the Proteas in the driver’s seat in the run-chase. At the start of play, SA needed just 69 runs to win the Test.
Bavuma (66) was the first to depart on Day 4 as Pat Cummins drew the first blood. Stubbs was the next to depart after he was castled by Mitchell Starc. SA’s WTC final hero Markram (136) attempted to stay till the end to finish off the game for the Proteas but was forced to walk back to the pavilion, thanks to an exceptional catch by Travis Head.
In the end, it was Verreynne and Bedingham who finished the run-chase for South Africa.
