In the video shared to xSo , Rob explained that his reason is due to people regularly struggling to spell or pronounce his last name.
“Is it kind of stupid? Sure. But the amount of time I’ve wasted trying to get people to spell or say my name correctly is literally days of my life. Trust me, I added that,” Rob said in the video.
His wife, Kaitlin Olson previously commented on the fact that she and the children they share will be keeping her old name, which Rob also acknowledged in the video.
“It’s a family name. My grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and all of us share it, and I love them and want to stay connected,” Rob said in the video, but went on to explain the current spelling of the name. “Except it’s not really our name at all. Not only have many generations changed its spelling, but the current one was given to my ancestor by a government official who decided it was now the spelling.”
Rob ended the video by saying that all of these family members love him regardless of his name, so he’s not letting the criticism about his name change him.
