Rita Ora is sharing the details of the proposal she surprised Taika Waititi with!
The 34-year-old “For You” musician married the 49-year-old Thor: Ragnarok director in 2022. On the Start Over Podcast, Rita opened up about the details of the proposal and what inspired her to make it so special.

Rita revealed that she got her wedding rings custom-made and engraved with something special inside. According to the singer, she didn’t want her rings to be anything too flashy, but this engraved detail adds something special to the couple.
“We were in Los Angeles, and I rented a hotel room in Palm Springs. It was a really nice fantasy—filled it with balloons and cake.” Rita explained the proposal itself. She shared that all the special details she planned were finished because she was imagining the proposal she wanted for herself.
On the podcast, Rita revealed that Taika had a surprising and hilarious response to her surprise when he walked in and saw it.
“I’m holding the cake, like—holding a bloody cake—and the balloons are all around us. He comes into the room and says, ‘What the hell, it’s Valentine’s Day?’ I’m like, ‘Nooooo!’ Anyway, I get down on one knee…” Rita recalled and said she was worried that Taika might not be interested in taking the next step in their relationship by getting married.
Luckily, Taika said yes and the two were married later in 2022 in a small, private ceremony surrounded by their loved ones.
