This Balenciaga show marks the end of an era, as creative director Demna Gvasalia serves as the last collection with the fashion house.
“This collection is the perfect way for me to end my decade at Balenciaga . I’ve come as close as I can to being satisfied in this never-ending pursuit of impossible perfection—the defining ethos of Cristóbal Balenciaga ,” Demna shared of the collection.
“The starting point for the collection was a study of the dress codes of ‘La Bourgeoisie.’ The severe, monumental tailoring for women with tulip lapels that frame the face, alongside rich, constructed collared chemises and nosferatues,” he added. “The couture renditions of archetypal garments form my final wardrobe—building what I consider the most important raison d’être of this metier as something that needs to exist outside the ballroom.”
