While there’s no official synopsis for the film yet, Villeneuve is adapting Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah . The director said the film, set approximately 12 years after the end of Part Two, will be “completely different” from the first two films and will “finish the Paul Atreides arc.”

Dune Messiah continues the story of Paul Atreides, better known—and feared—as the man christened Muad’dib. As emperor of the known universe, he wields more power than any single man was ever destined to wield. Worshipped as a religious icon by the fanatical Fremen, Paul faces the enmity of the political houses he displaced upon assuming the throne—and a conspiracy within his own sphere of influence.
And even as House Atreides begins to crumble around him from the machinations of his enemies, the real threat to Paulo comes from his lover, Chani, and the unborn heir to her family dynasty…
