Sofia Vergara is not only a beloved actress and America’s Got Talent judge, but she also has a highly publicized love life. The 53-year-old star has been married twice: first to her high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, 54, and later to actor Joe Manganiello, 48. Sofia and Joe were married for seven years before announcing their split in July 2023.
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple said in a joint statement to Page Six . “As two people who love and care deeply for each other, we politely ask that our privacy be respected at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.” Days later, Joe filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
According to court documents obtained by HollywoodLife , they had a pre-agreement in place. Both agreed to keep their individual assets and cover their own legal fees. Sources close to the couple told Page Six that the split was largely due to differing views on expanding their family. Joe reportedly wanted children, while Sofía wasn’t interested.

Sofia and Joe met through their former co-star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in 2014. At the time, the former was engaged to Nick Loeb , but the two broke up a few weeks after the event. Joe reflected on how captivated he was by Sofia at the event in an interview shortly afterward.
“There was a photo someone took at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where they caught me looking at Sofia Vergara’s ass,” he explained . “When you talk about being manipulated, that’s what I’m talking about. It’s like a moment of Zen. There’s nothing in my brain. If only I could meditate on this properly. I don’t go after other people’s women. She has a guy. If she were single, I’d be like, poof!”

Before Sofia was arrested for her second husband, she was married to her first husband, also named Joe. She was only 18 when she said “I do” to her first husband in 1990. Although their marriage lasted only two years, they welcomed their son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, in 1991, a year before their split. Not much is known about their love story, as it occurred before Sofia broke into the film and television industry, but Manolo, who is her only child, has given his father a shout-out on social media. One example is in June 2017, when he wished him a Happy Father’s Day with a sweet Instagram photo, which can be seen above, showing his doting father holding and feeding him as a baby. “Happy Father’s Day!!
