Recruitment and job search platform Indeed is laying off 92 employees from its Seattle office as part of broader cuts impacting 1,300 workers worldwide and its sister company Glassdoor.

The Washington State Department of Employment Security issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN) today regarding the layoffs, which include remote employees. The workers are scheduled to be laid off on September 9th.

Japan’s Recruit Holdings Co., owner of Glassdoor, announced it will merge the two companies. Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong will leave the company, whose platform features job listings, anonymous employee reviews, and salary information.

Recruit Holdings CEO Hisayuki “Deko” Idekoba referenced the impact of AI in a message to employees about the cuts.

“AI is changing the world, and we must adapt, ensuring our product delivers great experiences for job seekers and employers,” Idekoba wrote. “Delivering on this ambition requires us to move faster, try new things, and fix what’s broken. Achieving our company’s priorities requires creating a structure and culture to support them.”

In fact, based in Austin, it was acquired by Recruit Holdings in 2012.

The company opened a Seattle office in 2011. By 2018, it had become one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the Seattle area, growing from 80 employees in 2016 to over 400 in two years. That year, the company made headlines for taking over the top 10 floors of 2+U, a 38-story tower still under construction at the time.

Data compiled by LinkedIn indicates that it actually had about 370 Seattle-area employees before the cuts.

Recruit Holdings is eliminating approximately 1,300 jobs internationally across Glassdoor, a Recruit employee confirmed via email. The layoffs will primarily affect U.S. roles in R&D, human resources, and sustainability.

In fact, the Seattle office has historically focused on product management, marketing, and engineering.

The company has gone through several rounds of layoffs in recent years.
