Krypto the superdog may not be exactly “Superman” trained, but he’s still a good boy, always ready to go into battle if necessary. And for some animal lovers, this anxiety means you might be worried about one thing: whether the pup will survive.
It’s a fair concern, considering how terrible things have gotten for animals in other James Gunn films. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 ‘s drastically accurate reproduction of animal testing and experiments. In The Suicide Squad, Weasel is one of the first deaths (although it is undone) in the film.
This is the reality of superhero life. It’s dangerous, whether you’re a human or a superpowered animal. Which brings us back to our point: will Krypto survive?

To assuage any concerns, yes, Krypto outlives “Superman.” Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) certainly threatens in another way, and the engineer (Maria Gabriela de Faria) incapacitates and torments the sweet kid by covering his head in nanobits, but at the end of the day, Krypto makes the house safe and sound.
With that comfort in mind, you can enjoy him being the best boy—we won’t accept Superman and Gunn’s assertion that Krypto isn’t a good dog—in peace.
