Former India head coach Anil Kumble has opined that Jasprit Bumrah must play the next two matches in order for India to fancy a series win against England. His remarks come in the backdrop of the pace spearhead announcing earlier that he would only be playing in three Tests apart from the fact that India are 2-1 down in the series. Ahead of the IND vs ENG 4th Test in Manchester, Kumble explained why it was important for Bumrah to not skip even one game in the ongoing series in order to ensure India win their first series of the new WTC cycle.

Why Bumrah is must-need for India in rest of IND vs ENG series

Speaking on JioHotstar, Kumble pointed out that it was essential for Bumrah to take part in the remaining two Tests, as India couldn’t afford to complain afterwards that they had lost the series. The pacer, who was India’s most over-worked bowler in the previous calendar year, sustained a back injury at the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January. Bumrah returned to action in IPL 2025 after spending nearly four months on the sidelines and had then decided that he will only play 3 Tests in England.

“I would certainly push for Bumrah to play the next game because that’s crucial. If he doesn’t play and India end up losing the Test, that’s it, the series would be done and dusted. Bumrah should feature in both the remaining Tests. Yes, he mentioned earlier that he would only play three matches, but there is a long break after this. He does not need to be part of the home series if he wants rest. But right now, Bumrah should be playing the next two,” Kumble said.

Bumrah has already played two games in the ongoing series. However, on both occasions that he was a part of India’s XI, Shubman Gill and co. went on to lose the games. In fact, India’s inly win in the IND vs ENG Test series came at Edgbaston in the absence of Bumrah when Siraj and Akash Deep managed to take 20 wickets despite the veteran pacer.

Meanwhile, reports on Thursday claimed that Bumrah was all but confirmed to play in the IND vs ENG 4th Test in Manchester as the series was at stake.
