O PCB anuncia “proibição de cobertor” no Paquistão da participação na WCL

A day after the Pakistan Cricket Board prohibited teams from using the country’s name in cricket events, the board has now decided to impose a blanket ban on future participation in WCL. The move comes after India Champions boycotted their match against the arch-rivals twice in WCL 2025, triggering a row. The Yuvraj Singh-led side first forfeited the tournament opener against Pakistan and then pulled out of the semi-final as well.

Pakistan to no longer take part in WCL

As per a PCB press release, the decision to issue a ban on Pakistan’s participation in WCL in the future was taken during an emergency Board of Governors meeting that was held earlier this week. The PCB criticized the organisers of the WCL for the handling of affairs after India decided to boycott matches against Pakistan and accused the content of their press releases to be “tainted with hypocrisy and bias.”

It is pertinent to point out that several Indian stars, including Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf and Irfan Pathan, pulled out of the WCL 2025 opener against Pakistan amid existing geopolitical tension between the two countries in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

As per news agency ANI, the PCB has decided that only the board has the sole right to use the country’s name. The board has warned that legal action will be initiated against anyone who tries to use the country’s name at cricket events. Further, the report states that PCB authorities were miffed with the fact that India boycotted Pakistan twice in WCL 2025. They felt that it dented the image of the country.

“All private organizations will face legal action in case they use Pakistan’s name. PCB has the sole right to allow its use for cricket events if it finds the authenticity of the League and the organization as reputable,” the report stated.
