India clinched a dramatic victory on Day 5 of the IND vs ENG 5th Test at The Oval. Defending 35 with England having half their side left, India forced a collapse to see through a win. Gill led the way with a series high 754 runs, the most by a captain in their debut series. It was the second highest by an Indian in a series behind Sunil Gavaskar’s 774.

India’s 6-run win at the Oval was their narrowest margin of victory in Test cricket. It remains their only single digit victory margin ever. The previous lowest was their 13-run win at Wankhede against Australia in 2004. Their previous lowest margin against vs England was in 1972, when they won by 28 runs at the Eden Gardens. For England, this was their 3rd-lowest margin of defeat. Ben Stokes and Co lost to New Zealand by 1-run in 2023.

Mohammed Siraj’s epic

Mohammed Siraj redeemed himself with a fiery burst on the final morning of the Oval Test. Siraj did not start the series well but grew into it, especially in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer took 16 wickets in India’s two wins on the tour, highlighting his lion hearted effort. Overall, Siraj finished with 23 wickets, finishing level with Jasprit Bumrah for the most wickets vs England in a series away.
