Michael Madsen The cause of death has been revealed.
As reported by NBC 4 Los Angeles, the 67-year-old actor’s cardiologist confirmed he died of heart failure, with heart disease and alcoholism listed as contributing factors.
The local news outlet also reported that no autopsy will be performed because Madsen’s cardiologist signed his death certificate. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department also closed its investigation into his death, listing it as a death by natural causes.
Ron Smith, Madsen’s manager, confirmed the doctor’s report in a statement released to Entertainment Weekly .

Madsen was pronounced dead at her Malibu home on July 3 after being found unresponsive. At the time, the sheriff’s department ruled the death was of natural causes, with no foul play suspected.
“Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, who will be missed by many,” read a joint statement from his managers, Ron Smith and Susan Ferris, and publicist Liz Rodriguez. “Over the past two years, Michael Madsen has done incredible work with independent films, including the upcoming features Resurrection Road , Concessions , and Southern Housewives Cookbook , and was truly looking forward to the next chapter in his life.”
Smith, Ferris, and Rodriguez also revealed that they were preparing to release a book titled Tears for My Father: Thoughts and Poems from Outside the Law .
In addition to appearing frequently in Quentin Tarantino films such as Reservoir Dogs, the Kill Bill films, The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Madsen was known for notable roles such as Sonny Black in Donnie Brasco, Jimmy Lennox in Thelma & Louise, and Glen Greenwood in Free Willy .
