Anfisa’s biggest diet tip? “I just reduced my portion sizes,” Anfisa told E! News. “I’ve actually been thin my whole life, but when I moved to the United States, I gained about 15 to 20 pounds. The food here is different from the way I used to eat in Russia. In Russia, I ate home-cooked meals, but here I went out to eat a lot. And I really wasn’t controlling it; I was eating everything.”
Anfisa maintains that cardio is key to weight loss. “I was doing the elliptical or treadmill five or six times a week for 30-40 minutes,” she told E! News. Taking a daily walk—outside or on a treadmill—is great exercise, especially at a brisk pace. A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day reduced the risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared to walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.
Anfisa enjoys jet skiing, which is a surprisingly effective form of fitness. Fitness Revolution Health claims that the average 150-pound rider will burn an astonishing 238 calories during a half-hour ride. The sport is also great for cardiovascular endurance.
Anfisa’s primary form of fitness is strength training. She’s not only a weightlifting enthusiast but also works as a personal trainer. Why should you consider lifting weights? According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training can also help you:
- Develop strong bones
- Manage your weight
- Improve your quality of life
- Manage chronic conditions
- Sharpen your thinking skills
