Sifu developer Sloclap released its new soccer title Revenge on Thursday, but the arcade-style soccer game launched without cross-play, limiting players to their own platforms. Since Revenge is an online, team-based experience, it’s only natural that players would expect cross-play to join their friends across platforms, but the functionality won’t be present at the game’s launch.
During previous beta testing, developer Sloclap said on its Rematch Discord server that the team was working to get crossover ready for launch and the feature was high on its priority list. But the option isn’t ready for launch, prompting Sloclap to apologize to early adopters.
“We understand that many of you have been eager to play Revenge across platforms since day one. We did our best to include cross-play at launch, but Revenge is the studio’s first cross-play title, and we faced unforeseen technical complexities that prevented us from having this feature ready in time,” the studio said on its official blog . “We should have communicated as soon as it became clear that cross-play would not be available at launch, and we apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused some of our players.
The developer added that “along with bugfixes, crossplay is our absolute highest priority, we’re committed to delivering this feature swiftly, and we’ll share a more precise deadline as soon as possible. We already have a basic working version from a technical standpoint, but we need to implement the relevant interfaces, before debugging and polishing it, and finally passing console certifications successfully – all this takes time but we are doing our best to move forward quickly.”
Sloclap doesn’t have an official timeline for when Crossplay will launch, and said it hopes players will keep in mind that features like Crossplay can take a long time to develop.
