Michael Hurley died in April at the age of 83. He last shared a new studio album, The Time of the Hullas, in 2021, with work on Broken Houses and Gardens beginning soon after. The record features a combination of new material and re-recordings of older songs, including “Indian Chiefs & Hula Girls” from 1987’s WaterTower and “The Abominable Snowman” from 1995’s Parsnip Snips . Having released his first album on Folkways Music in 1964, Hurley’s recording career now spans over 60 years.
