You can be a hero in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 by saving the painter Neal among all his sickos and tricks.
During Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4’s campaign, the San Francisco level is one of the first where you need to complete specific objectives to unlock the next locations. While the “Save Neal the Painter!!!” mission was present in the original game, the steps to complete it have changed considerably in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 .
To help you tick off items on your mission list and progress through the game, we’ve prepared this Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 Guide explaining How to Save Painter Neal .
How to save Neal the painter in THPS 4
As the San Francisco map’s opening introduction explains, Neal the Painter is a man in trouble on the pier. If you don’t save him, well, Neal will become the next meal for a giant shark just waiting for the poor man to fall into the water. You can save them with the power of your skateboard.
The first step is to break the wire holding a large rock in front of the pier. To do this, you’ll need to slide from side to side, which means maintaining balance as your character climbs up, around, and then down the wire.
The best strategy for breaking the wire is to hold your character in place right in front of one end of the wire, jump, and start sliding . If you don’t cover the entire length of the wire, it won’t break. If you’re having trouble getting across the entire length, consider activating some mods . To activate them, pause the game and access the Options Menu , where you’ll find the Game Mods section. Using mods doesn’t affect challenge completion, and you can disable them whenever you feel like it.
With the Boulder launched, you still need to give it a push to roll toward the pier and save the painter in distress. While simple, pushing the giant sphere requires a specific move: a WallPlant , which involves placing one foot on a wall.
As with sliding down the wire, the best starting position for hitting the rock with a wall is standing next to it while facing the pier. When you’re ready, do an ollie and then a wall.
If you need more help completing this mission, you can go into the settings and change the wallplant command options. You’ll want to go with the most straightforward option, which sets the Ollie button to perform the wallplant as well. For example, on PlayStation 5, you’ll use the X button for both actions. Using this specific setup, you simply need to ollie and then press the same button immediately afterward to automatically perform a wallplant .
The boulder will roll towards the pier and save the painter Neal, crossing this mission off your to-do list.
