More details on Justin Banta being accused of secretly giving his girlfriend an abortion drug, killing her baby

According to USA Today in September 2024, Banta was expecting a child with his girlfriend, who has not been publicly identified. When the woman informed Banta about her pregnancy, he reportedly offered to cover the costs of an abortion. However, the woman informed Banta that she wanted to keep the child.

On October 17, 2024, the woman was six weeks pregnant. On that date, she reportedly went for a doctor’s visit and found out that the baby was in good health with a strong heartbeat. Additionally, on the same day, she reportedly met her boyfriend at a coffee shop. According to the woman, she believes that Banta slipped a “Plan C” bead, known as an abortion drug, into her drink.

The next day, she reportedly became exhausted, experienced heavy bleeding, and decided to go to the emergency room. On October 19, 2024, she lost the child.

“…which she believed was a result of drugs Banta had previously slipped into her drink at the coffee shop without her permission,” the Parker County Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release shared via Facebook .

To note, KKTV reports that Banta is married to another woman. He and the unidentified woman had been dating for a month. The outlet notes that the footage captured him pouring a substance into the woman’s cup. Additionally, the video also captured him giving her cookies at the coffee shop.

Authorities later interviewed Banta and confiscated his cell phone as evidence.

“Sheriff’s investigators believe Banta, who works in the U.S. Department of Justice’s IT department, later remotely accessed the phone and performed a ‘reset,’ thereby deleting crucial evidence related to the case,” the sheriff’s office said.

Additionally, during the investigation, authorities tested the cookies and confirmed that they contained “mifepristone and misoprostol,” allegedly used for medical abortions.

Then, earlier this month, on June 6, Banta was arrested and booked into the Parker County Jail. Per USA Today , he was reportedly released on bail the same day. However, he was ultimately charged with “tampering with physical evidence” by Parker County authorities. Additionally, he was charged with capital murder by Tarrant County authorities, due to the alleged crime taking place 37 miles west of Dallas.

According to the outlet, the “capital murder investigation” was handled by multiple Texas agencies, the Secret Service, and even the Federal Bureau of Investigation. CBS News notes that the investigation remains ongoing and Banta is awaiting indictment in both of his cases.

Justin Banta isn’t the only man accused of killing a baby—a Florida man has been convicted in the death of a 2-year-old

Justin Banta isn’t the only individual making headlines due to the shocking death of a child. As The Shadow Room previously reported, Travis Ray Thompson was accused of severing the spine of his ex-girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter. Thompson claimed he had no knowledge of how the child was injured while in his car. Ultimately, the 2-year-old succumbed to her injuries.

The medical examiner’s office has since determined that Thompson “applied significant gradual force to the victim’s upper and lower body,” bending the child’s back and killing him.
