DL Hughley Shares His Opinion on Diddy’s Trial Outcome

DL Hughley had a lot to say about Diddy’s case, saying the music mogul fended off the most serious charges. In a recent conversation with Tmz Live , Hughley broke down, saying the high-powered legal team and deep pockets allegedly played a role in the outcome.

“Of course, Puffy wasn’t charged for the things he did, he was pursued in this vague… even the judge, you could see he was having a hard time buying it,” Hughley said. He stressed that Diddy’s charges, like racketeering and sex trafficking, were too obscure to stick. But that didn’t mean he was innocent in the court of public opinion.

“Money will buy a great defense. If he’s charged and has a public defender, he’ll be convicted,” he added. He emphasized that Diddy’s lawyers did what they were paid to do by dodging the most serious charges as best they could. But the feds didn’t hit him with domestic abuse charges. Hughley thinks that’s where the real issue lies. “They charged him with all these things that they just couldn’t prove,” he said, taking on the problem of how the justice system ultimately unfolded.

He also spoke about Diddy’s supporters celebrating his verdict.

On July 2nd, the day of Diddy’s verdict, supporters gathered at the Manhattan courthouse, eagerly awaiting the outcome of the trial. People chanted Diddy’s support and poured baby oil over themselves as the verdict was read. The baby oil poured over fans was a nod to Diddy’s “Freak Off” allegations.

Hughley wasn’t happy with the public reaction, however. “I think these are people who are morally bankrupt,” he expressed. He acknowledged Diddy dodging the Rico and sex trafficking charges, but said that doesn’t erase the ugly truth. “Even if Puffy wasn’t convicted of the most serious terms, he still yelled at the woman in front of everyone,” he said, referring to the 2016 Hotel footage of Diddy attacking Cassie. DL also hinted at a racial angle, saying, “There’s no denying that […] I think he was overwhelmed… obviously, you can see that. But for me to celebrate that?”

Here’s what Diddy was found guilty of at his trial

On July 2, after a seven-week federal trial in New York, a jury acquitted Diddy of the major charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. However, he was found guilty of two lesser charges of transportation to engage in prostitution, linked to ex-girlfriends Cassie and “Jane.” These Mann Act violations could land him up to 10 years per count, though prosecutors are pushing for four to five years, according to the New York Post . Meanwhile, Judge Arun Subramanian denied Diddy bail, citing his “propensity for violence,” so he must remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn until his sentencing. Officially set for October 3, the date was confirmed after a July 8 hearing.
