On the podcast, Emily revealed that her ADHD and dyslexia diagnoses made it difficult to memorize lines for the show. The actress shared that during the first season, she struggled to remember the technical jargon that should have come naturally to her character.
“We were working insane hours, longer than just a normal series. You’re working 14- to 16-hour days, and then I had to memorize the lines. So I would be up late at night,” Emily admitted on the podcast.
Emily went on to reveal that after being late to set one day, series creator Hart Hanson came to her trailer to have a scathing discussion with her about her performance on the show. She said, “He took me aside and said, ‘The studio has concerns about your work.’ They said I was late and unprepared.
Afterward, Emily revealed that she was able to get help from the production team to better memorize her lines and her problems lessened as the show continued into its impressive 12-season run.
“ Hart helped me find ways to be better, to do my job in terms of learning my lines and remembering them, and a lot of that was having downtime or having a scene where I’m not in, etc. He’s just good. We were so lucky,” Emily said on the podcast.
