YouTuber Alexis ‘quackity’ de Maldonado’s new translation app has already been hacked just hours after its launch.

On July 7, quackity unveiled its Dababel real-time translation tool , designed to help streamers reach new audiences.

The ad video, which featured Breaking Bad actor Luis Moncada hearing his son speak Spanish for the first time on the app, went viral in X, catching the attention of a good-natured hacker.

Hacker Daniel Christensen, also known as Bobtshoplifter , claimed the app had security flaws and called for the scam that dM. When his warnings were ignored, he decided to go to Mr. Robot in Dababel.

Soon after his warnings went unanswered, Bobtshoplifter showed some of the security flaws he found by taking over the app.

In Dababel’s “Plans” sections, a new byline “Hacked By Bob” appeared, along with another titled “Bobtshoplifter at X Tyingin’ to report multiple security issues.”

The hacker elaborated on why he did what he did, explaining: “Every time I use a new service, I also check their security. If I’m going to use something, I want to make sure it’s secure.”

“Security testing your app is important! I just do it for free so they’re more secure,” he added.

A screenshot showing Christensen’s original tweet and the hacked plans soon went viral, no doubt finally getting Dababel and Quackity’s attention.

Christensen noted that signature information was not exposed by this issue, further revealing that he hoped Dababel would let him continue testing to make sure it was fully secure and would share more information once he was sure everything was secure.

While Dababel may have been lucky in this case, other companies weren’t so fortunate. Even big brands like McDonald’s aren’t immune to breaches. In 2024, the restaurant’s official Instagram page was taken over by a crypto scammer who “Rug” ripped off $700,000 in Solana from unsuspecting fans.
