Kelly Clarkson has updated the lyrics to her heartbreaking song ” Piece by Piece One More Time.”
The Grammy-winning singer debuted the song in 2015 and was written about her father’s neglect of her family while growing up, as well as how her then-husband, Brandon Blackstock, would never abandon her or their children.
After Kelly’s divorce from Brandon , she updated the lyrics for her 2023 Las Vegas residency to make the song about her self-worth as a single mother.
Now, Kelly has changed the words once again.

The original lyrics of the chorus said: “But piece by piece, he collected me / Up from the ground, where you left things, yeah / Piece by piece, he filled the holes / That you burned in me at six / And you know / Never walks away, never walks away, never walks away, he can leave me, never walks away, he can leave me, never walks away.
Kelly I changed the lyrics in 2023 to: “But piece by piece, I collected myself / Up from the ground, where you left the things, yeah / Piece by piece, fill the holes / That you burned in me at six / And you know / I just walk away when they ask for money / I care, because I love myself / I love myself, restored my faith / That a heart can beat me, that I beat myself, I love myself, that I love myself, that I love myself, that I love myself.
Kelly updated the lyrics once again to 2025.
In the second half of the chorus, Kelly Agora sings, “And you know / I’m learning every day how to love myself / I’ve let go of the shame that you taught me / Piece by piece, I’ve restored my faith / that a heart can still beat, even when it breaks.”
Kelly opened up to the public about why she changed the lyrics.
“I wrote it [when] I was feeling a way, and hoping for more than [anything],” she told The Fans on the opening night of her new residency. “And then, I changed it a few summers ago. I had to sing it. I was like, ‘I have to sing it because people kept asking.’ It just felt right.”
