King Crimson are recording their first new album since 2003’s The Power of Believing . Vocalist/guitarist Jakko Jakszyk revealed that recording was underway in a new interview with Goldmine .
While Jakszyk could not give a completion timetable, he stated that the album will feature the most recent King Crimson lineup of Jakszyk, Robert Frip, Mel Collins, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison, and Jeremy Stacey—the ensemble most recently toured in 2020.
“As we speak, we’re making a King Crimson studio album,” said Jakszyk, who joined King Crimson in 2013. “When that will come out and what format or how — that’s beyond my brief. But yeah, we’re doing it little by little, and then a few months ago, management said, ‘Can we?’ So, yeah.”

As Goldmine noted in the interview, this most recent lineup of King Crimson has released several live albums featuring new songs. Jakszyk confirmed that some of these selections will receive the studio treatment for the new LP.
“The studio versions of these pieces and some other bits will emerge from assembling them,” he said. “I think so.”
Meanwhile, Tony Levin and former King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew revisit ’80s-era King Crimson through their tribute album, Beat, which features Tool drummer Danny Carey and guitar virtuoso Steve Vai. The group just announced their own live album, Beat Live, capturing the band’s 2024 tour.
