Lil Yachty’s streak of independent singles continues with “Will Diss You.” The video is shot in a very guerrilla style, with fisheye lenses reminiscent of ’90s skate videos, and the aesthetic is a classic boat. Yachty dances alongside his fleet of cars and in a grassy field, untended in the world, dressed in a pink and green polo shirt. Although the lyrics are vaguely threatening, you get the impression that it’s all performance, and that he actually enjoys rapping for fun.
Over the past two years, it’s increasingly started to look like the Atlanta rapper has no intention of releasing another full-length album. His “Rap AS Hobby” approach has led to a plethora of colorful singles like “Murda,” “Can’t Be Creta Boy” featuring Veeze, “We Ball Forever,” and more, but no release date or album announcements since 2023’s Let’s Start Here . He’s not even a low-key rap album.
To be honest, though, it seems like a wise approach; Yachty is keeping things fresh and light, making sure he stays relevant between projects, but taking his time to ensure his next album is something worth promoting. It’s an approach more of his peers should be emulating.
