According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise has many benefits, as it “strengthens the body’s inner core, increasing its flexibility, resulting in better overall health.” It can also promote leaner, more slender muscles, injury prevention, stress and back pain relief, improved athletic performance, and mind-body awareness.

In a YouTube video detailing her day, Maddie reveals some details about her approach to diet and fitness. She eats some oatmeal before hitting the gym. Her workout, which can be done anywhere, consists of jumping jacks, kicks, running in place, pliés, push-ups, leg circles, yoga stretches, splits, and plenty of stretching.

Maddie, who has dealt with skin issues, makes sure to cleanse after her workout. “The reason I shower immediately after a workout is because I’m prone to breakouts on my face and back,” Maddie explains. “So if I quickly hop in the shower afterward, I don’t break out as much.” She added to Cosmo that opening up about her skin issues has helped others. “I’ve been dealing with back acne for two years, and I’m so insecure about it in every photo shoot. Eventually, I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll put this in my story.’ I said, ‘This is what I’ve been dealing with. Is anyone else going through this, and do you have any recommendations?’ I had so many people reach out.”

Maddie relies on protein bars to get all the protein she needs right after a workout. This convenient snack balances protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW) but also improves body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) on both low-calorie and low-calorie diets.

Maddie is a big advocate for mental health. “I’ll always be a perfectionist, but not in the way where on Dance Moms you’d see me crying and then I’d just suck it up and go back to it,” Maddie told Cosmopolitan. “I’m going to therapy, talking to people, doing all the things. I’ve learned that I’m not going to have a problem if I’m feeling bad or if I have an injury. That’s the biggest difference. It’s amazing that I can feel my feelings and not just push them down. I’m also very clean. That’s where my perfectionism has transferred.”
