It’s not every day someone steps down from a major government gig for moral reasons—so when it does , you know the story runs deep. With immigration still front and center in national debates, a longtime advocate’s decision to step aside is raising eyebrows and questions about what’s really going on behind the scenes. The move comes amid Donald Trump’s renewed immigration crackdown, marked by policies that have sparked widespread criticism.

Ice lawyer resigns as priorities shift
Adam Boyd, a 33-year-old government attorney, officially resigned from his position in ICE’s legal department last month, citing a shift in the agency’s mission that he simply could not stand. In a recent interview, Boyd stated that ICE has pivoted from prioritizing national security threats to pursuing deportation quotas, expedited screenings, and detaining migrants in courtrooms to inflate statistics. He said the agency is now more focused on meeting a target of 3,000 arrests per day—a number reportedly set by top officials like Stephen Miller and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem—than ensuring due process.
“We still need good lawyers in ICE. There are drug traffickers, national security threats, and human rights abusers in our country who need to be dealt with. But now we’re focusing on numbers over everything else,” Boyd said.
Have student loans caused ICE officers to sit idle?
Boyd claims the pressure to deliver large “ numbers ” has led to legitimate cases being overlooked and due process overlooked. Instead of targeting high-profile threats, ice crews are allegedly sweeping migrants into sensitive spaces like churches and schools, all to fulfill aggressive daily objectives. He admitted that leaving was a “ moral decision ” he had to make. And the real kicker? He says many of his former colleagues feel the same way, but are staying put until student loan forgiveness takes effect.
“It became a toss-up of how many deportations could be reported to [White House Deputy Chief of Staff] Stephen Miller in December,” Boyd revealed.
What’s going on with Trump’s immigration policies?
It seems even Donald Trump is feeling the heat from his own immigration policies. During a recent White House press conference, he admitted that the ice attacks are sending farmers into panic mode—especially since many undocumented workers have been working in the fields for decades. Furthermore, anti-ice protests are springing up across the country, with activists demanding an end to mass deportations and aggressive enforcement tactics.
NEW: President Trump says an executive order is coming allowing some illegal immigrants to stay in the country so farmers don’t run out of workers.
“Our farmers are being hurt badly. They have very good workers.”

And Trump’s other immigration move has raised eyebrows and offered checks. In May, he signed a new Executive Order launching ‘Project Homecoming,’ a self-deportation program that offers undocumented immigrants a $1,000 “exit bonus” and a free flight to the country of their choice. As previously reported, its goal is to completely eliminate interference on the ice… by literally paying people to pack their bags and leave.
