The live-action The Cat in the Hat 2003 film was so poorly reviewed that Dr. Seuss ‘ widow Audrey Geisel actually decided never to allow a live-action adaptation of any of his other books.
In the years since, all adaptations have been animated, and now The Cat in the Hat is getting a feature-length animated film for the first time!
Doing what he does best, the cat—voted by Bill Hader —teaches joy to children in a hilarious, unique, and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and the audience on a fantastical journey through a world they’ve never seen before. In the film, our hero takes on his most difficult task yet for IIII (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC): to cheer up Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town. Known for taking things too far, this may be the agent of Chaos’s last chance to prove himself… or lose his magic hat!
