Curtis took to Instagram to release a statement explaining the decision after fans of the rehab addict were left confused when the HGTV series disappeared from the network’s schedule just two episodes into its final season.

After fans of Rehab Addict were left confused following the HGTV scam . The series disappeared from the network’s schedule just two episodes into its final season, Curtis released a statement, and the decision was all hers.

“I’ve made the executive decision to protect the remainder of our new shows until the fall. I appreciate your support and understanding for the late notice,” Curtis shared in a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday. “It’s just a lot of hours (my hours) to get a show on the air and we (my family + I) thought – why are we giving up the summer when we have the ability to do this in the fall?”

The newest season of Rehab Addict premiered on June 24, only to be abruptly replaced by My Lottery Dream Home after two weeks. But Curtis insists there’s no drama behind the scenes, and just a much-needed break for her and her family.

“Thank you to the powers that be at HGTV who were receptive to our idea. They’re airing Lottery Dream Louse in my place.”

Curtis also took a moment to squash any speculation that fellow HGTV alum David Bromstad replaced her.

“Fun fact, [ Lottery Dream Home host] David Bromstad was my pregnancy buddy on the beach while we were filming and living next door to each other in Gulf Shores, Alabama, for Beach Flip . … So, don’t let any rumors spread that he replaced me — I chose that,” she clarified.

Rehab Addict originally premiered on the DIY network in 2010 before moving to HGTV in 2014, and after a brief hiatus in 2018, it returned in 2021 with Rehab Addict Rescue. Season 9 marked the return of the original series after a 3-year hiatus.

Curtis spoke to Toofab about returning to the show in the lead-up to its premiere last month.

“So, we never stop rehabbing houses. We’re always rehabbing houses. And you know, over the last three years, I’ve built my production company, and we’re still filming and producing,” Curtis explained. “But it takes a long time to finish one of our houses. So, three years sounds like a long time. However, for us, that’s how long a house takes, so everything goes hand in hand.”

As for why she took time off, Curtis told PEOPLE she “had a setback in my life that shook me to the core, and it was one of those moments where I thought, how do I get through this?” – However, she didn’t elaborate further on the situation.

When asked what keeps her coming back, Curtis told Toofab she hopes she can inspire viewers to save some of these old homes instead of leaving them in the dust.

“I mean, I could retire tomorrow, and I’d be fine, but you know, there’s always… there’s a purpose to the show, and that’s to showcase old houses. And the more we showcase old houses on TV, the better the chance that someone will save an old house instead of tearing it down. That’s why we’re here,” she continued.

While Curtis mentioned bringing the show back in the fall, an official release date for the remainder of season 9 has not yet been announced.
