The Great Switch 2 restock is only available at your local Best Buy and will coincide with the release of Donkey Kong Bananza . However, the announcement doesn’t reveal whether the store will carry the Mario Kart World Bundle, listed at $499.99, or the standalone console, priced at $449.99 (or both). Regardless of the console bundle, Best Buy mentioned that “system availability is subject to change” and will vary by location.
Polygon reached out to a Best Buy representative for clarification on whether the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle would be part of the system’s restock. We’ll update this story with any new information.
Nintendo stated that it was concerned about not meeting demand for the Switch 2 before the console’s official launch. Prior to the Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo acknowledged that it might not be able to meet the demand of all gamers hoping to get their hands on the latest hardware at launch. In April, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa posted a message to X explaining that the company had received 2.2 million entries for the Switch 2 lottery sale in Japan alone, a number that “significantly exceeds [Nintendo’s] expectations and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles” it could offer at launch.
“Currently, in many countries, demand for Switch 2 exceeds supply and we are unable to meet it,” Furukawa said. “We understand that some shareholders were also unable to meet this. As a company, we are working to improve our production system to supply as many units as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this initial demand, which greatly exceeded our expectations.”
It’s unclear how long the Nintendo Switch 2 shortage will continue, but if you really want to get your hands on the new tech, Best Buy might be able to help you out — just show up in person, not online.
