Kusal Mendis crashes his own debut
Kusal Mendis had an evening to forget in Chandigarh in Gujarat Titans’ clash against the Mumbai Indians. Keeping wickets on his debut, Mendis dropped Rohit Sharma early in the game. Rohit then went on to score a game-turning 81 to help MI to a massive total. The Sri Lankan also spilled a chance to give Suryakumar Yadav a reprieve.
With the bat, the onus was on Mendis to build a partnership after Shubman Gill was dismissed in the first over. The Sri Lankan got off to a flyer, smashing a couple off sixes off Trent Boult. He stitched a 50-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan. Mendis however looked iffy, even surviving a run out chance.
Just when Kusal looked good to go on for a big score, he crashed on his start. Playing Mitchell Santner, Mendis tried to sweep him away on the back foot. However, the Sri Lankan couldn’t get his balance right and slipped and hit his own stumps.
