England have been dealt a big blow. Their main spinner Shoaib Bashir might just be out of the match, after sustaining an injury on the little finger on his left hand, in the ongoing IND vs ENG Lord’s Test. The spinner had injured his hand while bowling to Ravindra Jadeja on day 3, and immediately moved out of the park, to get some attention.
Post that, Joe Root took over the bowling duties, when needed. Even though the team was hopeful that Shoaib Bashir would continue to bowl the next day, but he continued to sit on the sidelines. On the morning of day 4, he was seen bowling on the practice wicket, with a heavily strapped left hand, but that also means, he might not be able to bat.
An England statement said “Following his left little finger injury, Shoaib Bashir continues to be monitored and is expected to bowl in the fourth innings of this Test. A decision on whether he will bat in the third innings will be made in due course. His involvement in the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford will be assessed at the end of the match.”
As far as Bashir’s role in the series is concerned, he hasn’t been at his very best, but yet come up with some wickets. In his three matches, he has bagged nine scalps, at an average of 59.44. It was him, who triggered a mini-collapse for India, when he removed the centurion KL Rahul with an excellent delivery.
Meanwhile coach Brendon McCullum has said that Jacob Bethell could be looked as an option going forward in the series.
