Sanju Samson lidera Kerala no críquete doméstico e no Rajasthan Royals no IPL.
The Kochi Blue Tigers have decided that their captain for the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025 season won’t be Sanju Samson. The team had bought the superstar for Rs 26.80 lakh, breaking the previous record for the most expensive pick, and spent more than 50% of their total purse on him.
Saly Samson named captain by Kochi
Despite all of this, the Blue Tigers haven’t named him their captain for the KCL 2025 season. Instead, they have decided to trust Sanju’s older brother, Saly Samson, to do the job. They had finished second from the bottom, 5th, last season, and would want to change their fortunes. This makes the decision not to name Sanju as their captain even more head-scratching.
Compared to Sanju, Saly was acquired by the Blue Tigers for just Rs 75,000. Three years his senior, Saly has never led Sanju at the senior level. He’s never played for Kerala and has struggled with injuries, but now is his time to shine.
Why not Sanju Samson?
Perhaps the reason why Saly was picked over Sanju was availability. Rishabh Pant, another wicketkeeper like Sanju, wasn’t named captain of his Delhi Premier League team, Purani Dilli 6. That was primarily because Pant wasn’t going to play the entire season.
For the unaware, Sanju had skipped KCL’s inaugural season last year. He hadn’t even put his name into the auction. Sanju is playing this time around, but perhaps not for the entire season. The tournament will begin on August 22 and run until September 7. Considering the upcoming Sri Lanka white-ball series and the Asia Cup 2025, Sanju might not play even one game.
