After bowling out the hosts for 247 runs in the 1st innings, India finished at 75/2 at stumps on Day 2, with a slender lead of 52 runs. While play was interrupted multiple times on Day 1 where a yellow warning was issued, there were no such obstacles on Day 2.

India closed Day 2 at 75/2 with a 52-run lead. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with an unbeaten 51 before bad light ended the day. England took a 23-run lead after folding for 247 with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bagging four wickets each.
After a rain-curtailed Day 1 where only 64 overs were possible, India Cricket Team were bundled out for 224 with Karun Nair falling for 57 and Washington Sundar for 26. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley dominated with a 92-run opening stand, but then, India took control. Duckett fell for 43 to Akash Deep while Prasidh Krishna dismissed Crawley for 64. Prasidh and Siraj combined to cut England down to 215/7 at tea.
