“Não vai ser fácil”: Shastri Fires Aviso para o Capitão Gill antes da Inglaterra Tour

Former India cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri has warned new Test captain Shubman Gill ahead of the series against England. The Punjab batter was named Rohit Sharma’s successor following the latter’s abrupt decision to retire from Tests just before the start of the new WTC cycle. India will enter a new era under captain Gill and will take on England in the 1st Test at Headingley, Leeds on June 20.

Shastri’s warning for Gill

Speaking on The ICC Review, Shastri pointed out that the tour to England will not be easy for captain Gill, adding that leading India in the UK wasn’t an easy task. He advised the new Indian skipper to take his time. However, Shastri claimed that while it wouldn’t be easy for Gill, he would surely learn from the exposure.

“I think, take your time. It’s not going to be easy. He’s been asked to do a tough job, that is to captain India on a tour of England,” Shastri said.

Further, Shastri heaped praise on Gill for his calm and composed attitude, noting that he was impressed with the star’s temperament in IPL 2025. Shubman led the Gujarat Titans till the Eliminators, emerging as one of the best captains of the season.

“What I saw of him in the IPL with the Gujarat Titans, he seemed very composed and calm. He’s got a good temperament. He’s matured as an individual, he’s got some young players around with him, and I think it’s a learning curve as far as Shubman Gill goes,” Shastri added.

Gill will not only have the weight of captaincy on his shoulders but will also have to deliver with the bat. On Wednesday, vice-captain Rishabh Pant confirmed that Shubman will replace Virat Kohli at number 4 in the 1st Test. After a sub-par series agianst Australia, Gill will now be hoping to do well with the bat in England.
