Shubman Gill mantém os cartões próximos na seleção do Jasprit Bumrah para Ind vs ENG 5º teste

Jasprit Bumrah remains in contention to feature in the IND vs ENG 5th Test contrary to reports. Bumrah was deemed fit enough to feature only in 3 of the 5 Tests in the India vs England series. While the Indian spearhead featured in his 3rd match of the tour in Manchester, he could still be in the mix revealed captain Shubman Gill.

England announced their Playing XI ahead of the Oval Test but Shubman Gill guarded his secrets ahead of the final game of the series. India are already without vice-captain Rishabh Pant due to a fractured foot. The availability of Jasprit Bumrah remains a question.

The BCCI medical team and the selectors had considered that Bumrah would only play 3 Tests in England to manage his workload better. The Indian spearhead had played all 5 Tests in Australia and needed a surgery which ruled him out for 4 months. Bumrah bowled 33 overs in Manchester and clearly looked fatigued with his pace dropping considerably.

Despite that, there remains hope he features at The Oval. India are trailing 2-1 and have the opportunity to level the series against an England side sans Ben Stokes.

“We will take a decision tomorrow. Wicket looks very green, so let’s see,” Shubman Gill told the reporters ahead of the IND vs ENG 5th Test.

After the Manchester Test, coach Gautam Gambhir had confirmed Bumrah was available for the 5th test. The 31-year-old did not since the morning of Day 4 in Manchester and it is hoped that an additional day’s rest would have eased his case.

Should Bumrah not feature, Akash Deep would return to the XI. Deep starred in India’s win at Edgbaston with a 10-wicket haul. However an injury ruled him out in Manchester. Anshul Kamboj struggled on debut and will make way. Bumrah is India’s joint leading wicket taker in the series. In his absence, Mohammed Siraj has led the attack.
